DOT Cargo Securement

There are any number of things that can cause an accident on the highways. In studying incidents that involve commercial vehicles, the Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) determined that cargo being loaded and secured incorrectly is more likely to cause a crash than any other type of problem. So the DOT has established “cargo securement” regulations to specify how different types of cargo should be loaded and secured so that it can be transported safely.

ICT’s course on “DOT Cargo Securement” discusses the goals of the DOT’s Cargo Securement Standard, the requirements that the Standard places on motor carriers and drivers, and what drivers should do to ensure that the cargo on the truck they are driving stays put when they’re on the road.

Topics covered in the course include:
• The DOT Cargo Securement Standard
• Securement Systems
• Working with “Load Limits”
• Loading and Restraining Cargo
• …and more.
